Remember that week when the Chicago Bears didn’t have any injuries to report on the injury report?
That was fun.
And, unfortunately, it was short-lived.
The first injury report of Week 9 is out. And the Bears have four starters who show up on it:
Sigh. This is an inauspicious way to kick off the days of prep work leading up to Sunday’s game against the Dolphins:
Right tackle Larry Borom remains out of action due to a concussion. Borom was on the injury report last week and not practicing due to a concussion after the Bears’ Monday Night Football win against the Patriots. Rushing back from a head injury is a no-no to me. But even if Borom could, I’d advise him not to do so. Riley Reiff performed admirably in the starting role in place of Borom. And I’m comfortable enough with him starting again if necessary.Cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Eddie Jackson were practicing on Wednesday, but with limitations. Jackson was in on all 58 snaps in last week’s loss to the Cowboys. Meanwhile, Gordon played all but three snaps of Chicago’s Week 8 defeat. This is something worth monitoring. Hope it isn’t something too serious.Right guard Teven Jenkins shows up on the injury report with a back issue. That is going to be a cause for concern since back issues were there for Jenkins as a rookie and had an injury-related absence at the start of training camp this year. One can only hope that this is something like a maintenance day. Keep your fingers crossed.
There are still a few days before I become overwhelmingly worried about who is on the injury report and what their status is for Sunday’s showdown against Miami. It could very well be that the three players who were limited with an injury are a full-go at practice tomorrow or Friday. And it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Borom clears concussion protocol sometime soon. Even still … it isn’t how I’d prefer to start my week. However, tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully, one that brings us a more positive update.
