Teven Jenkins Missed Another Practice, But Cole Kmet, David Montgomery, Kyler Gordon, and Kindle Vildor Got Upgrades

Chicago Bears

We might be staring at another week of Bears football without one of its most talented offensive linemen being available on game day.

Right guard Teven Jenkins missed a second consecutive practice with a hip injury. Jenkins’ hip problems last week capped his practice time and had him questionable to play against the Lions. But Jenkins didn’t play and was a game day inactive. And after missing a pair of practices to start the week, it is looking doubtful that Jenkins will suit up this upcoming Sunday against the Falcons.

As for the rest of the injury report, there are some encouraging updates to share at a variety positions:

Seeing a handful of players getting upgrades on the injury report doesn’t totally make up for Jenkins being out again. But I’ll take positive developments when I can get them:

  • Cornerback Kyler Gordon went from practicing with limitations due to a knee injury to being a full participant. With Jaylon Johnson not on the injury report at all to start the week, it looks like the Bears will have both of their starting corners available on Sunday. That’s a relief.
  • Another cornerback receiving a progress report upgrade is Kindle Vildor, who went from not practicing on Wednesday to doing so on a limited basis on Thursday. Vildor suffered an ankle injury early in the loss to the Dolphins, didn’t practice all week before the Lions game, and didn’t suit up for the Bears’ defeat. It is conceivable Vildor could make a return Sunday in Atlanta. But he’ll need to put together a full practice before I take that leap of faith.
  • Tight end Cole Kmet also went from not practicing to being a limited participant. Kmet has caught five touchdowns in his last three games. Bears fans should want that guy as healthy as possible, as his connection with Justin Fields appears to be heating up at the right time.
  • Running back David Montgomery went from not practicing (personal) to a full-go. That’s a relief, especially with Khalil Herbert on IR and set to miss the next four games.

One more day of practice to go and an injury report to follow. I’ll have my fingers crossed for another round of positive updates going into the weekend.
