I’m not used to “Chicago Bears quarterbacks” and “Hall of Fame” being used in the same sentence, but these times, they are a changin’. And I am willing to consider the following news item as a first step toward changing our mindset.
Bears quarterback Justin Fields is going to Canton — by way of his shoes:
As Spike Lee once said: “It must be the shoes!”
Fields’ cleats from his record-breaking performance against the Dolphins two Sundays ago — in which he set a new high mark for single-game regular season rushing yards for a quarterback — are going to Canton. In that game, Fields rushed for a record 178 yards en route to winning the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week award. Fields didn’t win the NFL’s Ground Player of the Week honors for those efforts is a shame, but getting your game-work shoes in a Hall of Fame display is a pretty cool consolation prize.
Chicago’s QB1 is on one. Fields He re-writing record books, raking in weekly awards, and breathing life to a morbid Bears offense. And now, he is getting the Hall of Fame treatment. Hopefully, this isn’t the last time we get to connect Fields and the Hall of Fame. See you for the enshrinement of the class of 2045? Hopefully, we won’t still be needing to bang the drum for Devin Hester to get in.
