The writing has been on the wall all week.
And if you bothered to read what it said, it was something along the lines of “Justin Fields won’t play on Sunday against the Jets unless he is 100 percent healthy.”
Fields, who was a limited participant throughout the practice week, isn’t 100 percent. Consequently, Fields isn’t playing today and is inactive for the Chicago Bears’ Week 12 matchup against the New York Jets.
This will mark the sixth game Fields will have missed due to an injury since being installed as a Bears starting quarterback back in 2021. Fields missed the Lions game on Thanksgiving and the Cardinals game a week later due to injured ribs. Then missed games against the Seahawks and Giants because of an ankle issue. And Fields was held out of last year’s season finale while in COVID protocol.
That might seem like a lot of missed action. But if you think about it, no one was wanting Fields to risk it for a quick turnaround against the Lions. And it’s not as if there was anything lost by any late-season missed time. If anything, it was probably a blessing that Fields was resting up and not spending any more time in Matt Nagy’s offense than necessary. Just saying. It was probably more good than bad that Fields was out for those games. And it is a good thing that cooler heads prevailed today and kept Fields off the MetLife playing surface this week.
As for next week, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
In the meantime, here is the full list of Bears inactives:
We’ll have more for you in Pre-Gamin’ later in the morning.
