Let’s be honest, no one predicted Brock Purdy vs. Geno Smith in an NFC West Week 15 showdown with playoff implications, but here we are.
The 49ers head to Seattle tonight to take on Geno Smith and the Seahawks in a game that can decide the NFC West. A San Francisco would clinch the NFC West and drop the Seahawks to 7-7, at which point they would be clinging to the seventh and final seed in the NFC playoff picture with their postseason hopes on life support.
A Seattle win would move them to 8-6 and make things a little spicier, although the 49ers likely win the NFC West regardless. Then again, the 49ers are going to be without Deebo Samuel until at least the Wild Card round, and when we’re talking about a Purdy-Smith matchup with playoff implications we’ve already entered the twilight zone, so who knows.
So, quite simply, it’s a win and in for the 49ers or chaos. I vote for chaos.
