There Goes That Option: Chris Harris is Reportedly Going to be a Titans Defensive Assistant

Chicago Bears

Chris Harris has coaching experience with three different franchises and success as a nine-year NFL pro. It is an interesting résumé, to be sure. And one that had me liking the idea of the Chicago Bears interviewing him for a defensive coaching position.

However, this is an option that is being taken off the board. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reports the Tennessee Titans are closing in on hiring Harris to be the defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach:

Ah, well, nevertheless.

I’ll admit it. My eyebrows did that thing where they arch cartoonishly — like an animated dog sees its cat rival in a vulnerable position — when I saw reports of the Bears requesting an interview with Harris. That combination of being a former player, an assistant for two different head coaches, and experience as a former Bear made a potential Harris hiring interesting. It won’t happen now that Harris is on his way to Nashville. But it was a cool thought. One that drew our attention from obsessing over what to do with the No. 1 pick for a few minutes. I guess we’re left to keep tabs on Jerry Gray. ICYMI, Gray is a Packers defensive assistant the Bears also want to talk to regarding a coaching opportunity.

The show goes on.
