Well, an intriguing bit of news has hit the timeline and it definitely made my eyebrows perk up.
CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson reports the Chicago Bears have offered Washington Commanders defensive assistant (and former Bears player) a Secondary Coach/Pass Game Coordinator job on Matt Eberflus’ staff:
Seeing this tweet threw me for a loop. And if you don’t understand why, stick with me here.
On January 19, a report surfaced that the Bears were wanting to interview Harris for an unspecified job on Matt Eberflus’ staff. I’m guessing it is that Secondary Coach/Pass Game Coordinator gig Anderson mentions above. And it comes weeks after an opening came about after DBs Coach James Rowe left to coach at his alma mater, USF. Anyway, two days after the Bears’ interest in Harris popped up, Harris was reportedly set to join the Tennessee Titans as a defensive assistant. Perhaps the Titans deal fell through. After all, an announcement making it officially official never came about. Maybe the Bears were able to sweeten the pot and give Harris something to think about. Heck, I suppose that Harris could be using interest from multiple teams as leverage to get himself the best deal. More power to ya if that is the case.
Whatever the case is, there doesn’t appear to be a done deal with Tennessee. Especially if the Bears have a standing offer. So, stay tuned.
