The 2022 Chicago Bears season wasn’t one the record books will remember with much fondness.
But if Justin Fields’ career goes to where we believe it can, we might look back at it as the start of something special.
And if that is how the cookie crumbles, we’ll likely look back at Fields getting a fifth-place vote on the NFL MVP ballot as an I told you he was gonna be something special moment we can look back on.
This is how the voting shook out:
Justin Skyler Fields. MVP vote-getter. Yeah, I can get used to that.
Fields’ age-23 season saw him improve across the board. The Ohio State product saw increases in completion percentage, passing yards, touchdowns, and passer rating. Fields’ TD% went up, while his INT% dropped by percentage points. The incremental growth was a wonderful development. A silver lining in what was otherwise a dark cloud of losses that rained down on us throughout the 2022 season. Ultimately, Fields showed enough to have us feeling good about a Bears quarterback for the first time in a hot minute. And we’re not alone, especially seeing that the GM is backing Fields as the quarterback of the future despite owning the No. 1 pick in a draft with two legitimate QB1 prospects. How’s that for a vote of confidence?
Greatness often comes from humble beginnings. Here’s hoping one fifth-place MVP vote is a first step toward landing some hardware down the line for Fields in Chicago.
