It sounds like our long, national nightmare will soon be over.
And with it, so will Aaron Rodgers’ time with the Green Bay Packers.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has the scoop on the Packers and New York Jets talking shop about an Aaron Rodgers trade that has been dragging for months:
Rapoport makes it clear that a deal isn’t imminent. And that’s fine. At least it appears as if the deal has a pulse. That’s better than the non-movement we’ve been dealing with for the last month or so. Plus, it looks like we’ve got a target date in mind to get it done during NFL Draft week. At this point, I’m just looking for a conclusion. After years of Rodgers annoying me with his on-field play in Green Bay, he finds new ways to irk me with his off-the-field antics and ability to drag out something that should’ve been done ages ago. Rodgers is essentially a houseguest who has overstayed his welcome. The music is off and the party is over. Just let me enjoy my Justin Fields-fueled optimism live on without your omnipresent bad vibes, Aaron. Please. I’m asking nicely.
It has been 39 days since Rodgers made a public declaration that he wants to play for the Jets in 2023. And that is what got this ball rolling. But to this point, the Jets and Packers have yet to hash out a trade. However, it sounds like the two are going back to the negotiation table. And at some point, a deal will come of these conversations. At least, that seems to be the expectation. Then again, we should know better than to expect anything from a noted weirdo like Rodgers.
More on this when it becomes available. Or when Rodgers has a change of heart after having an epiphany while visiting an escape room.
