Some people wake up, get their coffee together, read the morning news, and ease into the day.
And then there is Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles, who wakes up feeling dangerous and wanting to cut deals.
At the time the deal was announced by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Day 3 of the NFL Draft wasn’t set to start for another 43 minutes. But that is of no consequence to Poles or his New Orleans Saints counterpart. Because those two sides have cut a deal:
The Bears began the day owning the first pick of Day 3. But they’ve already moved on from that — all while snagging the 115th and 165th picks in the process.
And to think, I had one fearless prediction I was going to make this morning. And it was this: The Bears will make trades today. Yes, as in plural. That is a very important “s” in trades. It’s doing a lot of the work. Just as I expect Poles to do work on the trade lines. Chicago owns the first pick of Day 3 and could shop it around. In fact, I think I’d be disappointed if the Bears made a selection there — but only because I’m greedy and want picks. It’s OK to be greedy sometimes and to want stuff for yourself.
More to come, I’m sure.
