This is where the fun begins.
It usually doesn’t take too long for teams to start signing their draft picks.
And for the Chicago Bears, whose minicamp opens this this weekend, they got the party going by signing four of their draft picks.
Day 3 picks Noah Sewell, Terell Smith, Travis Bell, and Kendall Williamson are officially in the fold.
And here is the visual evidence of their signings:
Pretty straightforward stuff here with each of the rooks getting four-year deals. Nevertheless, it’s always good to see the ink dried and new guys officially in the fold.
Sewell and Smith were fifth-round Bears picks. Meanwhile, Bell and Williamson were seventh-round selections. All four figure to be in a position to move into supporting cast roles immediately if they play well. Not only because Matt Eberflus showed he was willing to play rookies during his first year as head coach. But also because there are prominent reserve roles to be won. Players like Sewell, Smith, Bell, and Williamson can play themselves into rotational gigs at their respective positions. And from there, who knows what lies on the horizon. Remember, we saw Braxton Jones play himself into starting at left tackle after starting his Bears career as a Day 3 pick. Sure, those are outliers. But outliers are the ones who play themselves into those spots.
As for the rest of the draft class, we’re still waiting. Six picks still remain unsigned, including first-round pick Darnell Wright.
