Nate Davis, the Chicago Bears’ big-ticket free agency addition to their offensive line, has finally shown up to Halas Hall for OTAs.
Chris Emma of 670 The Score relays the good news via Bears Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy:
So, for the second straight day, a high-profile member of the Bears who hasn’t been with the team during their first two rounds of voluntary practices is officially in the fold. That’s straight-up wonderful!
On Tuesday, cornerback Jaylon Johnson joined in on the festivities at Halas Hall after sitting out the first two sets of OTAs. And while it wasn’t the end of the world when Johnson, Davis, or Eddie Jackson (who showed up last week) wasn’t around for voluntary practices a sense of relief that fell over me each time I found myself writing about each of these players arriving at Halas Hall. I do my best to not get out of sorts when players aren’t reporting for voluntary practices. After all, there is a reason they are voluntary in the first place. It’s just that I feel better knowing that everyone is at Bears camp.
Davis’ presence means that everyone on Chicago’s projected starting offensive line is at OTAs. The free agent addition joins Braxton Jones, Teven Jenkins, Cody Whitehair, and Darnell Wright at the team facility. If you think I’m happy about this development, imagine how Justin Fields feels about having all of his blockers together.
The Bears’ mandatory minicamp begins in six days. Here’s hoping we don’t have any holdouts. Not because I’m trying to dodge drama the same way Fields avoids would-be tacklers. But football seems easier when everyone is pulling from the same side of the rope. Full attendance at mandatory minicamp would be a nice first step toward that goal.
