Nate Davis Doubtful For Sunday’s Bears Game vs Bucs (UPDATE)

There is another offensive line shakeup coming to the Chicago Bears lineup. But I can’t say I saw this one coming.

In announcing that practice squad offensive lineman Aviante Collins was getting a promotion to the game day roster, the Bears announced a corresponding move. Right guard Nate Davis has been ruled doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team is citing personal reasons as to why Davis won’t be available for the Bears’ Week 2 matchup. Davis missed a practice before the team’s Week 1 game against the Packers due to personal reasons but was a full go a day later and played on game day. Davis was not on the injury report this week and did not miss any practice due to personal reasons.

UPDATE ESPN’s Courtney Cronin delivers an update on the Nate Davis situation. Our thoughts and well wishes are with Davis and his family at this time:

The rest of our original post is as follows…

An already short-handed Bears offensive line will likely be without yet another starter. And now, a unit that should’ve been better than it was at this time last year doesn’t look like it will be. At least, that seems to be the case in the interior. With all due respect to whomever Chicago’s coaching staff throws out there, the starting interior linemen are a center playing guard (Cody Whitehair), a backup lineman (Lucas Patrick), and a player on his second team this year (Dan Feeney) isn’t what I was envisioning as a Week 2 interior trio. Maybe they’ll catch lightning in a bottle. But this is all making me feel uneasy.

Admittedly, I’m sensitive to personal issues keeping someone out of action and I refuse to speculate as to why this is happening. Nevertheless, it’s an inauspicious Bears debut for Nate Davis. In year one of a three-year contract, Davis has missed time at OTAs, training camp, preseason time, regular season practices, and now, a regular season game. I don’t imagine this is what the Bears were envisioning when GM Ryan Poles made Davis a priority free agent signing.

More to come later…
