For the first time since 2010, the Seattle Seahawks will have a new head coach. According to multiple reports, including NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the head coach will be Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
The deal isn’t official yet, but Rapoport and other NFL insiders have reported that it’s going to get done, and Macdonald will become the youngest head coach in the NFL at 36.
Who is Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald?
Mike Macdonald has been serving as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens for the past two seasons. Under his leadership, the team finished first in points allowed and sixth in yards allowed in 2023. In 2022, the team ranked third in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed.
Macdonald first joined the Ravens in 2014 as a coaching intern and then moved on to coach defensive backs and linebackers. He then served as Jim Harbaugh’s defensive coordinator at Michigan in 2021 before returning to Baltimore in 2022 to replace Wink Martindale as their defensive coordinator.
According to Tom Pelissero, Macdonald will get a six-year contract from the Seahawks.
The Seahawks parted ways with Carroll as their head coach earlier this month. Carroll had been the Seahawks’ head coach for the past 14 seasons and owns a 137-89 record, two Super Bowl appearances, and a Super Bowl win during that span.
