For the first time, and hopefully not the last time, Caleb Williams is having his number retired.
Today, USC football announced a pair of number retirements from its legendary list of Heisman winners – Caleb Williams’ No. 13 and Reggie Bush’s No. 5.
Bush’s number retirement is long overdue. He will finally receive his honor after the NCAA originally stripped him of his award after allegations of impermissible benefits. He was given back his Heisman and had his records reinstated earlier this year.
Williams and Bush will join Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Charles White, Mike Garrett, O.J. Simpson, and Marcus Allen as the other Trojans to have their numbers retired.
Williams won the Heisman in a landslide in 2022 after transferring from Oklahoma and now has the distinct honor of being the savior of the Chicago Bears franchise after being selected first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Caleb Williams Has His No. 13 Retired By USC
Caleb no doubt earned the honor after winning his Heisman Trophy for USC – the 8th player in program history to do so. Despite only spending two years in the program, Williams certainly made his mark and stamped his legendary status.
He even got shoutouts from John Legend as well as the one and only USC super fan SNOOP DOGG himself!
Congrats to Caleb Williams, and it’s a very fitting honor to have bestowed upon him just days before he begins the part of his career that will lead to his NEXT number retirement when the Bears kick off their season on Sunday against the Titans.
Here’s to one day seeing No. 18 enshrined along the lake shore! Or would it be Arlington Heights…?
