Hours before the start of the season, the Dallas Cowboys agreed to a new contract with quarterback Dak Prescott. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Prescott’s new extension is for four years and will pay him $240 million. This will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history (I know, what else is new) and keep him in Dallas for the foreseeable future.
Dak Prescott’s New Deal Comes Shortly After the CeeDee Lamb Extension
Quarterback Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have been discussing a contract extension all offseason, and they finally reached an agreement in the eleventh hour before the start of the regular season.
This deal makes Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history and resolves any uncertainties about his future in Dallas that have been lingering for the past few years.
Recently, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb also secured a new deal with Dallas, leaving Micah Parsons as the next player in line for a new contract with the Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb reached a four-year, $136 million deal with a record-setting $36 million signing bonus before the start of the regular season. This makes Lamb the NFLโs second highest-paid wide receiver, behind Justin Jefferson. The Vikings and Jefferson agreed to a four-year, $140 million deal with $110 million guaranteed in early June. Lamb was entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract.
Despite initial remarks by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about not feeling a sense of urgency, the deal was finalized, ensuring the presence of the top offensive playmaker for the teamโs Week 1 game. Lambโs consistent improvement over his previous four seasons has elevated him to the top wide receiver conversation in the NFL.
Last year, the three-time Pro Bowler and 2023 first-team All-Pro led the NFL in targets (181) and receptions (135). He finished second in the league, receiving yards (1,749) and touchdowns (12).
Dallas now has their starting quarterback and his favorite target locked up.
