A spider has taken residency on my balcony and I’m not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
- OK, folks. Time to give your honest opinions on this week’s upcoming uniform matchup between the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans:
- I think I’d like the Texans’ look more if they had a white helmet to go with the white tops and bottoms. Also: Wearing all white after Labor Day is a bold fashion choice by the Houstonians. I respect the hustle. As for the Bears, I’d like their look more if they paired orange tops with blue bottoms. Someone once tried pitching me on orange bottoms and I’m not sure that would work. I definitely wouldn’t like it if it was partnered with the orange helmets.
- It is a shame the Bears didn’t retire the orange helmets after beating the Carolina Panthers while wearing the orange get-ups. This should’ve been the lasting image of Chicago’s football team wearing orange tops:
- Sigh. I guess it is time to make new memories in those jerseys. Perhaps CJ Stroud can take Bryce Young’s place in that picture above.
- As you might expect, the Pro Football Focus grades for No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams and No. 9 pick Rome Odunze weren’t all that great. The way I’m trying to see it is that there is nowhere to go but up for Chicago’s prized rookies. But there is no denying it was a disappointing afternoon for the new-look passing offense.

- I love that Patrick did instant Week 1 grades because it isn’t something we’ve been able to do at BN Bears in the past. And I’m totally digging the re-grades that come after a second-watch. Re-watching a football game for analysis purposes is like listening to an album for a second time in that it’s easier to pick up on stuff that is worth gravitating to the second time around. I’ll be reading these with great interest this year and I hope you join me.
- Speaking of re-watches, I can watch this DeAndre Carter kick return over and over again:
- It would be swell to see the creativity of special teams coordinators on display with some of these return designs. Hopefully, teams don’t decide to simply kick it to take a touchback.
- Mixing in a little special teams with a little defense has gone a long way for the Bears in the past. Linebacker T.J. Edwards talks Kay Adams through what happened on his fumble recovery in the team’s Week 1 win against the Titans:

- Every good, competitive team has a vibes guy. In addition to being the team’s designated old-head, I think Bears tight end Marcedes Lewis can also swing being the vibes guy — especially when he’s willing to do a tweet like this:
- Suddenly, I think I understand why the Atlanta Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick:
- Kirk Cousins is 36 and coming off a major Achilles surgery, so it isn’t all too surprising that he is coming out of the gates slow. However, I wonder if the Falcons saw Cousins in minicamps during workouts that came before the draft and thought that it would be a good idea to draft an insurance plan just in case Cousins wasn’t ready to give it a full go. That would make more sense than any other reason given to this point.
- I bookmarked this for later reading: Don Van Natta Jr.’s piece at ESPN goes inside Robert Kraft’s quest to make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Watching this reminded me that the one time I went to Lolla I got to see Rich Homie Quan’s set, Nas perform Illmatic, and Outkast on the main stage. Sometimes, I love the intersection of football, music, and culture:
