We began September with ample optimism regarding the Chicago Bears’ future. After winning on Sunday, we end September … still feeling good about some things. Today is September’s swan song. Listen to some Green Day, then get on with today’s BN Bears Bullets.
- Watching the Bears defense is kin to watching your favorite comfort TV show. For me, it is Season 7 of The Simpsons. It doesn’t matter what season or episode I decide to watch, I know it is going to deliver in a way that soothes my spirit. The year is 2024 and the NFL has done everything in its power to make it easy to play offense. And yet, here are the Chicago Bears — a team still delivering bone-crunching hits and stellar defensive play. Some things just don’t go out of style. It is comforting to know you’ve got old reliable to lean on in tough times.
- Chicago’s D on Sunday: 3 sacks, 6 quarterback hits, 7 tackles-for-loss, 3 pass breakups, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery. Those dudes have been stuffing the stat sheet all year long. Even with all of the Rams’ injuries, to do it against a Sean McVay-coached team quarterbacked by Matthew Stafford isn’t something you should look past.
- Fun fact: Matthew Stafford has thrown 24 interceptions against the Bears. It is the most he has thrown against any singular opponent. The Packers are a close second with 21. But that isn’t more than the Bears! Stafford has had a whale of a career. So getting INTs off him is a nice feather to put in your cap if you can get your hands on one.
- Another fun fact: The Bears have the longest current home winning streak in the NFL. Good pull by NFL Media’s Adam Rank. This seven-game streak dates back to last season and features wins from three different — Tyson Bagent, Justin Fields, and Caleb Williams. And to think there are people who actively want to move the Bears out of Soldier Field. lulz
- What a day for second-round picks made by Bears GM Ryan Poles. We’ll do more on Jaquan Brisker’s big day later. But let’s not forget what Kyler Gordon (4 solo tackles, 1 fumble recovery) and Gervon Dexter Sr. (1 sack, 1 tackle-for-loss, 2 quarterback hits) were also able to contribute. This feels like a good reminder that the Bears are slated to have *TWO* second-round selections in the 2025 NFL Draft. And they can really help boost the value of that other pick by beating this week’s upcoming opponent — the Andy Dalton-led Carolina Panthers.
- A reminder that Caleb Williams doesn’t need to throw it 50 times to impress:
I can’t believe the result of this play was a Caleb Williams touchdown pass pic.twitter.com/MZfirZwqD1

- After an uneven first half, this is what Chicago’s QB1 did after halftime: Completed 9 of 10 passes for 86 yards, threw a touchdown, didn’t toss an interception, and posted a 135.6 passer rating. Impressive. Those are wonderful numbers. But my favorite thing Caleb did in the second half was answer a pair of Rams scoring drives with touchdown drives. The ability to answer with touchdowns put a big, goofy smile on my face.
- This is a tremendous breakdown from Brian Baldinger on something Caleb Williams is getting good at doing:
.@ChicagoBears @CALEBcsw a small step forward in Caleb's development. Trust in protection. Delivering the ball with good timing. #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/LXyzq4tkzu— Brian Baldinger (@BaldyNFL) September 30, 2024
- The video above is everything I want film breakdown to be as a fan. Simple, concise, and easy to digest. You’re in, you’re out. Less is more. And I come away from the 1-minute, 36-second clip not feeling like I need an advanced degree in football to understand what I just watched.
- This is quite the send-off for NBC Sports Chicago’s Josh Schrock. Give it a read as he signs off from the Bears beat:
- More good stuff from the Bears beat via Kevin Fishbain (The Athletic), Jason Lieser (Sun-Times), Dan Wiederer (Tribune), and Chris Emma (670 The Score).
- Jayden Daniels is doing ridiculous things again. The No. 2 overall pick in last April’s NFL Draft completed 26 of 30 passes for 233 yards and delivered two touchdowns (one throwing, one passing) in a 42-14 Washington Commanders win against the Arizona Cardinals. I’d like to think that NBC would flex that game onto Sunday Night Football if the Bears and Commanders have winning records going into their Week 8 matchup. However, it is tough to envision television executives giving up the potential ratings bonanza that the scheduled game between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers will deliver.
- Keep in mind that flex scheduling can begin starting in Week 5. Looking ahead, maybe that Bears-Packers game in Week 11 is one we should keep an eye on. OPE! And let’s not forget that Monday Night Football games can be flexed, too. OK, I’m getting way too ahead of myself here thinking about something that can’t start happening until Week 12.
- The only thing keeping me from fully enjoying the Packers losing yesterday is that the Minnesota Vikings beat them to move their record to 4-0. I can’t believe how wrong I was about Sam Darnold. The Jets and Panthers are probably in shambles thinking about what could’ve been had either team done what it needed to in order to get the most out of him. Speaking of the Jets, they lost to Bo Nix and the Dener Broncos on Sunday. And it led to this moment:
- I like to see Aaron Rodgers lose. It is one of my favorite things.
- An incredible Brett Favre tribute:
- Remember when people were making a big deal out of Simone Biles’ outfit at the Bears’ Week 1 game against the Titans? Well, I’d like a fashion rundown from those folks after yesterday’s fit check:
