The Chicago Bears picked up a big win against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4.
And for their efforts in the win, a pair of Bears could bring home some hardware.
We’ll begin with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who is in the running for the NFL’s Rookie of the Week award:
VOTE CALEB WILLIAMS FOR ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HERE
Chicago’s QB1 is facing some stiff competition this week, so don’t think your vote won’t count. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is arguably the front-runner in this race (and for good reasons). Daniels, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, leads the NFL in completion percentage and has the Commanders out to a 3-1 record. Not bad, young fella. Other impact rookies who have been nominated for this week’s award include a quartet of wide receivers — Xavier Worthy (Kansas City Chiefs), Xavier Legette (Carolina Panthers), Brian Thomas Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Malik Nabers (New York Giants). This rookie class sure is loaded!
Don’t get me wrong. It would be cool to see Caleb Williams capture the vote and win. However, there is a case to be made that he wasn’t even the Bears’ best rookie on Sunday. Punter Tory Taylor was a baller in Week 4. Taylor averaged 55.4 yards per punt on his five kicks, had a 66-yard long, and pinned the Rams inside their own 20-yard line on three different occasions. Not only was Taylor a field-flipper on Sunday, he was a game-changer. So while the NFL won’t acknowledge it by having him in the running, we know better than to look past the snub around these parts.
Bears running back D’Andre Swift is also up for an award
Caleb Williams isn’t the only Bears player receiving consideration for an award after their Week 4 performance. Running back D’Andre Swift is one of the candidates for the NFL’s Ground Player of the Week award. And while Swift faces an uphill climb if he wants to win, there is no denying he had the most to overcome to even make it into consideration.
WATCH: D’Andre Swift Scores His First Bears Touchdown
Bears fans know all too well how poorly Swift had been performing leading into the Week 4 matchup against the Rams. Things were so bad that there were folks calling for his benching. Understandably so, I might add.
Don’t get it twisted. I fully grasped why there was a segment of the fan base that wanted to pull the plug on the experiment. However, I’ve maintained that using Swift differently would yield more desirable results. And that is what happened this past week against Los Angeles. Not only was Swift deployed better in the passing game, Bears Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron had the running back going downhill with the runs. Better design and usage coupled with better execution by the offensive line led to a better day for Swift.
