The Chicago Bears are searching for their third straight victory and a fourth in six tries this season when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Chicago and Jacksonville each had offensive explosions last week, with the Bears scoring 36 points and the Jaguars scoring 37. Both teams won in Week 5 against Carolina and Indianapolis, respectively.
Before these two teams kick things off on Sunday across the pond, let’s discuss some critical matchups that could significantly affect each team’s chances at victory this weekend.
Key Matchups to Watch in Sunday’s Bears-Jaguars Game
Kyler Gordon vs. Christian Kirk
Christian Kirk caught four passes for 88 yards in Jacksonville’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts last week, seven for 61 yards, and a touchdown the previous week against Buffalo. Kirk started slowly with two catches in Jacksonville’s first two weeks but has since begun to heat up. He is one of the best slot receivers in the game, but he has to match up with Kyler Gordon this weekend.
According to NextGenStats, the Bears rank No. 7 in the NFL in EPA/Pass against slot targets and eighth in yards allowed per game to slot targets. They also rank seventh in yards per pass to slot targets. Gordon has had a strong season, and taking Christian Kirk out of the equation will go a long way toward Chicago’s defense putting up another strong performance.
Darnell Wright vs. Travon Walker
It hasn’t been the best sophomore campaign for Bears right tackle Darnell Wright. Wright ranks 41st among offensive tackles (with at least 100 pass-blocking snaps) this season at PFF. The good news is that Jacksonville hasn’t been able to produce much pressure on opposing quarterbacks this season, ranking 31st in team pass rush win rate (ESPN) with a 29 percent success rate.
Still, Wright will oppose Travon Walker, who has four sacks this season and is tied for ninth in the league. Walker was the No. 1 pick in 2022 and has 20 sacks and 20 quarterback hits in parts of three seasons. He’ll be a challenge for Braxton Jones this week.

D’Andre Swift vs. Ventrell Miller
Something about playing against Jacksonville brings out the best in Chicago running back D’Andre Swift. In two games against the Jaguars while with Detroit, he racked up 176 rushing yards and caught seven passes for 56 yards, scoring three rushing touchdowns. In a 34-16 victory over the Jags in 2020, Swift put up 116 yards on 14 carries (averaging 8.3 yards) and two touchdowns.
So far this season with the Bears, Swift has racked up 234 rushing yards, scored two touchdowns, and caught 15 passes for 126 yards, with much of that coming in the last two weeks. Jacksonville’s run block win rate has been one of the worst in the league this season, so Swift should see the second level a bunch on Sunday.
Jaguars linebacker Ventrell Miller has stepped up in two recent games for the Jaguars, filling in for the injured Devin Lloyd. In both outings, Miller tallied 13 tackles, four assists, and two tackles for losses, becoming a key player on defense. He’ll be tasked with stopping a red-hot D’Andre Swift this week.
