The Caleb Williams-Jayden Daniels showdown is getting prime treatment from CBS Sports.
When the Chicago Bears come off the bye and face the Washington Commanders in Week 8, they’ll do so from the 3:25 p.m. CT window on CBS. The Tribune’s Brad Biggs reports that the game, which was originally scheduled for noon, will feature the NFL on CBS A-Team broadcast of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo. There is going to be all sorts of star power when the Bears and Commanders square off in the shadow of our nation’s capital on October 27. I can’t wait to tune in to watch.
Bears-Commanders gets moved into CBS Sports’ prime afternoon window
UPDATE: It’s officially official, via the Bears.
I’m not going to bore you with details on how the Sunday afternoon window is one of the most lucrative spots on television. However, it is worth pointing out since it shows how highly the NFL and its network partners think of the Bears, quarterback Caleb Williams, and their opponents in that game. If current trends stay strong, this won’t be the last time the NFL puts the Bears in a prime viewing window.

There isn’t a hotter story right now than what is happening with Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, cooking on a 4-2 Bears team while Daniels, taken second overall right after Williams, racks up highlight-reel plays for the Commanders. And in Week 8, a whole mess of people are going to get a chance to watch a pair of the NFL’s best young quarterbacks duke it out. This very well could be the first chapter in a budding rivalry starring two signal callers leading legacy organizations who have failed at finding franchise QBs over the years. It’s must-see TV, folks.
The primary reason that this game wasn’t flexed onto Sunday Night Football is because the Cowboys-49ers game is such a sexy national draw that even NBC couldn’t give it up. If you’re worried about the Bears not getting another shot to be on SNF, don’t be. There are plenty of games the league can flex down the stretch. And if Chicago’s football team is competitive, then it will find its way into the primetime spotlight.
