My therapist and I spent a chunk of our Wednesday session discussing the time I broke my leg playing Little League baseball and what it taught me about perseverance and resilience.
- I’m hesitant to heap praise on Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus because it feels like he does something highly questionable almost immediately after I acknowledge a good thing he does. With that being said, I love this mindset of “our plan is our plan” (h/t Pro Football Talk) no matter who the Commanders:
“It’s a similar offense when you watch the offenses. Of course, the different types of players in terms of who they are quarterback-wise, but our plan will be our plan, and we’ll adjust. We’ll have contingency plans for that, for who’s in there. But we’re going to stick with what we’re doing.”
- This mindset makes so much sense. One thing good coaches do is they stay true to themselves no matter what. Coaches who try to change because of what other teams do so often look back and say things like “if we would’ve just played our game…” after a loss. This isn’t to say Coach Flus should blindly stick to his guns. But if the Bears stick to their principles and execute their game plan, it’ll work against any quarterback.
- In other words: If you were wondering if these Bears would lose sleep while the Washington football team plays coy regarding its quarterback situation, that quote provides an answer.
- I love that Tyson Bagent is being used as the scout team QB to prepare for the Commanders’ offense. (CHGO Bears)
- If it ain’t broke…
- Chicago’s offensive line has been playing better lately, so there is no reason to try to tweak something that works right now. It looks like a far more cohesive unit than it did in the beginning of the season. Part of me wonders if the early season hiccups could’ve been ironed out during the preseason with more playing time. But now that we are six games into the season, I have grown tired of looking back and thinking about what could’ve been done differently in the preseason. What matters is what is happening now and what will go down in the games ahead. As things stand right now, the arrow is pointing up. Let’s keep it that way.
- Of course, I’ll be rooting hard for the Tennessee Titans to keep up this trend:
- This piece at ESPN sure makes it seem like Brian Flores has found a comfort zone calling defensive plays for the Minnesota Vikings. I’m looking forward to seeing how Bears Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron attacks Flores’ defense when the teams square off in Weeks 12 (Nov. 24) and 15 (Dec. 16).
- Speaking of defensive wizardry, I see that the Packers brought in former Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh to help in Green Bay. In a way, it makes the Packers’ end of the trade with the Jets look like they received a 2023 first-round pick swap, 2023 2nd, and 6th-round picks, as well as a 2024 second-rounder, New York’s former head coach … all to get rid of an aging weirdo quarterback. If Green Bay comes calling for a trade, don’t pick it up. Ever.
- A story that can only happen to the Cowboys: Kicker Bradon Aubrey missed practice on Wednesday because of jury duty. It is unknown how much time Aubrey could miss for doing this ultimate American rite of passage. (Ft. Worth Star-Telegram)
