The Chicago Bears released their Week 12 injury report ahead of their game against the Minnesota Vikings, highlighted by running back D’Andre Swift’s absence due to a groin injury sustained against the Packers.
Head Coach Matt Eberflus remains optimistic Swift will play, citing precautionary measures. But as I wrote earlier, Eberflus’ tone in his Wednesday press conference didn’t instill a ton of confidence in me that Swift is likely to play. I guess we’ll wait and see how things shake out in the next couple of days.
D’Andre Swift Headlines an Otherwise Clean Wednesday Report for the Bears
If Swift were to miss Sunday’s game against Minnesota, Roschon Johnson would be the primary back for the Bears. Johnson has excelled in his backup/change of pace role behind Swift this season, but losing Swift this week would be a big hit for Chicago’s offense. Swift is Chicago’s leading rusher with 635 yards on 155 carries this season, and he’s been a significant part of the receiving game when the Bears offense has had its most success this year.
Caleb Williams is Chicago’s next leading rusher with 306 yards. Travis Homer will serve as Johnson’s backup if Swift misses this week. But again, let’s hope Eberflus’ optimism holds and Swift is good to go this week.
Left tackle Kiran Amegadjie (calf), guard Ryan Bates (concussion), and safety Elijah Hicks (ankle) also missed practice. On a positive note, guard Teven Jenkins returned to practice in a limited capacity as he recovers from an ankle injury.
Outside of that, Wednesday’s practice report was refreshingly clean. Those five names were the only ones on the report, which bodes well for Sunday, especially if Swift bounces back and Teven Jenkins continues to trend toward playing.
