As if Aaron Rodgers couldn’t get any more controversial!
This week, Netflix announced the premiere of an Aaron Rodgers documentary entitled “Enigma,” which will premiere in just a few weeks on December 17th. The three-part series will follow Rodgers’ path of recovery after his Achilles tear at the beginning of last season. You can watch the full trailer below.
The Aaron Rodgers Documentary Will Be…Something
As mentioned in the title, I genuinely have no idea how to feel about the Rodgers documentary. In the latter portion of his career, Aaron Rodgers has pretty much only been interested in Aaron Rodgers, and his ego has grown quite a bit. This documentary feels like it’s pretty much existing to do that.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m most certainly interested in the actual recovery process. Like surgery, rehab, getting back on the field, and that whole portion of the journey. A 40-year-old recovering from an injury as severe as an Achilles tear as quickly as he did is undoubtedly impressive, even if he and his team have mostly been a flop this year. It’s the whole journey to all parts of the world and trying all these different “ancient” recovery methods that will feel very “look at me.” And yes, I know the entire production of a documentary on yourself is very “look at me.”
I think the series will ultimately be relatively interesting but with a ton of “eye roll” moments. I’m all for athletes giving people access and a pretty deep look into their lives and processes, as Rodgers is doing here. It’s highly intriguing, especially when it’s someone who is undoubtedly one of the best ever to do it at their position.
Having said that, Rodgers can just be so damn annoying at times. I can just envision myself rolling my eyes about 10 times an episode after he talks about how some ancient tea treatment helped give him mental clarity to develop super-healing powers for his Achilles or something like that. I’m still most certainly going to watch it, but even in the trailer alone, I could feel myself getting a little annoyed.
Anyway, enough rambling about Rodgers. I’m definitely not bitter either that he just absolutely owned the Bears and we never got the better of him during his entire career in Green Bay. Seriously, people, I mean it. I’m not bitter about that.
