The final Week 14 Chicago Bears injury report update of the week is OUT and there are three players who have already been ruled unavailable to play against the San Francisco 49ers.
- On the one hand, I hate to be the bearer of bad news at the jump. But on the other hand, it leaves us the rest of the post to discuss the encouraging news that came from Friday’s injury report update. Three Bears were ruled out and won’t play in Week 14. Running back Roschon Johnson and offensive lineman Ryan Bates remain in concussion protocol and are unavailable to suit up against the Niners. It hurts losing Johnson, who has carved out a role as part of the 1-2 punch in Chicago’s backfield with D’Andre Swift. I’ll be curious to see which practice squad running back gets promoted to the active roster. Joining Johnson and Bates as being out for Week 14 is safety Elijah Hicks.
- Now that we have that out of the way, we can discuss the good news from the Bears injury report. Exhale, friends.
- The following players were full participants on Friday’s practice report and have no game-day designation going into the weekend: Right tackle Darnell Wright, wide receiver Keenan Allen, safety Kevin Byard, and center Coleman Shelton. Allen began the week as a limited participant due to an ankle issue. Meanwhile, Wright, Shelton, and Byard began the week as limited participants in practice. But each of those players saw upgrades in their participation throughout the week and will go into the weekend on a high note. What a wonderful development this has turned out to be. Seeing good news on the injury report this late in the season is a surprise, to be sure. But a welcome one, indeed.

- There is some uncertainty with a pair of starters on the offensive side of the ball going into Week 14. Wide receiver DJ Moore and running back D’Andre Swift are listed as questionable to play. Both players were limited in Friday’s practice after not practicing on Wednesday or Thursday. A questionable designation is generally viewed as a 50-50 shot. I’ll hold out hope that both can give it a go because I am the optimistic type. But I won’t hold my breath. Quad injuries can be tough to manage.
