Whether you love or hate the expanded College Football Playoff bracket is irrelevant because it is here.
And this is what it looks like:
There are no real shockers here. I suppose you could quibble with SMU getting in over Alabama, but former ESPN college insider Brett McMurphy dropped the spoiler that the Mustangs would be in and the Crimson Tide would be out just one minute before the start of the broadcast. Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports chimes in to add that it is believed to be the bracket leak in the 11 years in which college football has had a bracket. All things considered, I love the pettiness of a former ESPN employee spoiling the fun for his old employer.
College football playoff begins on Dec. 20
Now that the dust has settled, we now know the details for the first expanded college football playoff.
As a Chicago Bears fan, I look forward to watching the new-look playoff structure. No, I don’t have a particular rooting interest. However, I will certainly be taking notes on draft-eligible prospects and writing down the names of potential Bears fits. For instance, I will have my eyes on University of Texas tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., who has been connected to the Bears in a number of early mock drafts. Perhaps we should also keep tabs on Tennessee edge rusher James Pearce Jr., Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, and Georgia edge defenders Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker. There is no shortage of intriguing prospects who will suit up in the college football playoffs.

The way I see it, these playoff games provide us with another data point for evaluation. We’ll get a chance to see how some of these prospects perform under the pressure that comes with playoff games. At a minimum, it gives us something to watch in December and January when we’d otherwise be scrambling for something to put on television.
