We have reached Day 8 of the Chicago Bears’ offseason. I put together a dresser and rearranged my bedroom while watching playoff football on Sunday. It’s called multi-tasking. Look it up.
- The Packers lost and that is a wonderful development. NFL playoff games are far more enjoyable when they are played without the Green Bay Packers. However, there is no denying nothing brings Bears fans together like a good old-fashioned hate watch. After watching Bears Twitter™️ fight each other over scoops and coach candidate rankings all week, it was nice to see everyone in this fan base pull from the same side of the rope. How about more of that in 2025?
- Green Bay goes into the offseason losers of its last three games. That’s a real shame.
- Coaches who won playoff games this weekend (and their background): DeMeco Ryans (Texans HC was a defensive coordinator with SF), John Harbaugh (Ravens HC was a special teams coach), Sean McDermott (Bills HC was a defensive coordinator with CAR), Nick Sirianni (Eagles HC was an offensive coordinator in Indianapolis before), and Dan Quinn (Commanders HC was a defensive coordinator with DAL). Do with that information what you will…
- And to think, we’ve still got a game between the Vikings and Rams to be played tonight.
- My power rankings, but in tiers:
- TOP PICK: Ben Johnson
- I’D SIGN OFF ON THIS: Pete Carroll, Kliff Kingsbury, Todd Monken
- LOOK OUT ITCHY, HE’S IRISH: Marcus Freeman
- THIS IS A FINE GROUP OF OPTIONS: Joe Brady, Aaron Glenn, Drew Petzing
- JUST THINK OF THE CONTENT WE’D DO: Ron Rivera
- I DON’T LOVE THE VIBES: Brian Flores
- A BRETT FAVRE ENDORSEMENT IS A RED FLAG EVEN I CAN’T IGNORE: Mike McCarthy
- THANKS, BUT NO THANKS: Matt Campbell, Vance Joseph, Mike Kafka, David Shaw, Arthur Smith, Anthony Weaver
- I’m surprised that the Bears didn’t extend an invitation to Liam Coen to interview for the head coach opening. Coen interviewed for the offensive coordinator gig last offseason. For him to not get a look as a head coach candidate after seeing what he has done with Baker Mayfield and the rest of Tampa Bay’s offense is surprising.
- After watching Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, and Josh Jacobs run the ball over the weekend, my big takeaway is that you should spend at the top of the market for the upper-echelon running backs if you are going to spend on that position in free agency. Spending in the secondary tier and hoping for top-level results is asking for you to be disappointed with your investment.
- This is an interesting set of numbers:
- I once saw a tweet that said Jordan Love was just Jay Cutler with a better PR team and I have been thinking about that since the conclusion of Sunday’s Packers-Eagles game.
- This radio call for Washington’s game-winning field goal at Tampa Bay was (begrudgingly) lit:
- That the Commanders won on a doink in the divisional round is one of those things that makes you think about a squad getting that “team of destiny” label. But more than that, seeing the Washington Football Team do this makes me think about how this is what the Bears sold us on last offseason. Maybe Tyrique Stevenson’s goof-up on the Hail Mary fail tossed us onto an alternate timeline. This stinks.
- The Washington Commanders’ trolling of the Bears this year has been unmatched. Whatever bad juju that Chicago’s football team put out there to get us to this point is something that needs to be reversed โย by any means necessary.
- Lost late in last week’s madness: The NFL announced the 2024 All-Pro teams. As you might expect, there were no Bears players to make the cut. HOWEVER, the folks at Windy City Gridiron point out that three Bears received votes for the All-Pro team. Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson received four second-place votes, return specialist DeAndre Carter had two second-place votes, and long-snapper Scott Daly had one first-place vote to go along with four second-place votes. Daly filled in nicely for Patrick Scales. So much so that I wonder if there will be a changing of the guard in 2025.
