If you can’t beat ’em, try and steal their top assistants.
It is an idea that hasn’t worked for the Chicago Bears in the past. But I suppose that doesn’t mean it can’t work out for the team in the future.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reports the Bears have sent out an interview request to discuss their head coach opening with Green Bay Packers Offensive Coordinator Adam Stenavich:
I believe this makes 19 known candidates who the Bears have either sought an interview with or who have been connected by league reporters and insiders as someone the team has an interest in chatting with regarding the head coach vacancy at Halas Hall. Talk about casting a wide net.
Who is Adam Stenavich and why are the Bears interested?
Adam Stenavich is the Packers’ offensive coordinator and has been in that role since 2022. Stenavich took over as the OC after Nathaniel Hackett left Green Bay to take over as the Denver Broncos head coach. We all know how well that turned out for Hackett and the Broncos. As for Stenavich, the rise to OC has been quite a journey. Before taking that title, he was the Packers’ OL coach (2019-21) and run game coordinator (2021). Before that, he was the San Francisco 49ers’ assistant offensive line coach (2017-18). In fact, the OL Coach title has been connected with Stenavich dating back to his college days with Northern Arizona (2014) and San Jose State (2015-16).
2025 NFL MOCK DRAFT: See Which Offensive Lineman Lands with the Chicago Bears
Beyond his coaching career, Adam Stenavich’s résumé is an interesting one. The University of Michigan product was a freshman All-American (2002) and a two-time first-team All-Big Ten member (2004, 2005) while with the Wolverines. After going undrafted, Stenavich spent some time with the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Texans. Stenavich never appeared in a regular season game, but that hasn’t stopped him from climbing the coaching ladder.
Considering (1) the Packers’ success in identifying and developing quality offensive linemen and (2) the Bears’ desperate need to identify and develop quality offensive linemen, it makes sense that Chicago’s football team would want to have a discussion with a coach on their arch nemesis who has ample experience with the offensive line. This is likely to be nothing more than a brain-picking activity. And if it helps the Bears unearth some much-needed offensive line help, then so be it.
