Chicago Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham is set to get a second interview with the Tennessee Titans.
Cunningham, who completed a first interview for the Titans’ general manager opening on Sunday, is lined up for a second interview with the team at a time to be determined. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has the details on who else is joining Ian Cunningham for Round 2 of interviews:
Technically, this will be the *FOURTH* interview for Ian Cunningham with the Tennessee Titans. If you’ll recall, Cunningham interviewed twice with Tennessee in 2023 before the Titans gave the gig to Ran Carthon. And in case you missed it, Cunningham interviewed with the Titans over the weekend. Perhaps the fourth time will be the charm for the Bears’ assistant general manager.
If Ian Cunningham makes it through, then he’ll survive some stiff competition. Mike Borgonzi and John Spytek are qualified individuals who are likely to be general manager candidates in the future if they don’t land a job in this hiring cycle. Maybe those are some good names to store for a rainy day in case the Bears decide they want to make a change at GM in the future.
Ian Cunningham remains a popular GM interview candidate
Credit to Ian Cunningham for building a résumé so strong that he can get another round of interviews for an open general manager position despite the Bears’ record during his time in Chicago. Cunningham getting a second interview this time around with the Titans is a testament to the work he has put in during his time with front offices around the league. Given how tough it is to get a GM job in pro sports, I am rooting for him to make it happen with the Titans.
MORE: Remember That Time When Ian Cunningham Saved the Bears a Draft Pick?
If the Titans end up hiring Ian Cunningham, the Bears would be in line to get draft pick compensation in return. Considering the many needs of Chicago’s football team, I’m sure fans (not to mention the front office he leaves behind) will welcome more draft capital with open arms. Even still … Cunningham’s departure would be bittersweet. After all, Cunningham must be doing something right in his role if he is still getting GM interviews. All things considered, the Bears need more quality front-office execs. Losing a good one would sting.
We will continue to monitor this situation as it develops.
