Day 11 of the Chicago Bears’ offseason. CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reports that the Bears don’t have an interview scheduled with a head coach candidate for the first time in a week. Maybe that’ll allow us time for some rest. Not bloody likely…
- I just thought I’d let you know from the top that I updated our Bears head coach interview candidates and rumors tracker this morning.
- The Tennessee Titans announced they have completed an in-person interview with Bears Assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham for the team’s open GM position. Chicago’s football team could get draft compensation if Tennessee hires Cunningham away from the Bears. And while it would sting a little to lose Ryan Poles’ right-hand man, I’d feel good for Cunningham getting a promotion (and I’m always happy to see this team add more picks).
- This is the perfect reaction to news about a shakeup in the Bears’ front office administrative ranks:
- That graphic aged like milk behind a radiator. But also, we should keep it in our minds come NFL Draft time when it becomes easy to fall in love with tools, measurements, and athleticism when we should be focusing in on if the prospect can play football. Tools, measurements, and athleticism are great. Don’t get me wrong. But if that tools don’t come with a toolbox, they’re borderline useless.
- Kevin Fishbain (The Athletic) goes inside the numbers to explain what went wrong with the Bears offense in 2024. Fishbain also finds stuff that provides hope for the future. Rebellions were built on hope. That is one of the biggest takeaways from the Star Wars movies. C’mon, now. It wasn’t all about lightsabers humming and space wizards lifting rocks with mind tricks!
- Larry Mayer of the Chicago Bears’ official website put together a list of the team’s top 10 plays of the 2024 season. Check it out. Do you agree with the rankings? What’s missing? What’s on the list that shouldn’t be on it/
- What a unique stat package and graphic:
- Sometimes, a headline tells you all you need to know — like this one from the Sun-Times accompanying the latest from Rick Morrissey: Why would anyone want the Bears’ head coaching job? One answer, a good one: Caleb Williams
- Charean Williams (Pro Football Talk) shares the news that old friend Leslie Frazier has an interview lined up with the Dallas Cowboys for their head coach opening. Frazier, who played for the Bears from 1981-85 and was part of that Super Bowl XX-winning team, was among the many interviewees for the head coach opening Chicago had in 2022. After stepping away from coaching in 2023, Frazier returned to the field with the Seattle Seahawks as an assistant head coach.
- ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky sounds interested in coaching. But if you’re the Bears, you’ve gotta stay as far away as you can from this one. With all due respect to Mr. Orlovsky, the Bears get meme’d to oblivion enough as it is. Hiring Orlovsky would take it to another dimension. And I don’t have the emotional bandwidth to deal with that right now. (Awful Announcing)
