Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was spotted on TV at the Wisconsin-USC basketball game with a wrap/cast on his throwing hand, which made it easy for folks to spiral into confusion and fear.
Thankfully, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has a suitable explanation:
Phew. My heart skipped a beat there for a minute.
NFL Network insider reports Caleb Williams is “fine”
We are now two weeks removed from Caleb Williams wrapping up a wild rookie season as Bears quarterback. Williams finished the year having completed 62.5 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,541 yards, tossing 20 touchdowns (against just six interceptions), and posting an 87.8 passer rating. QB1 was also sacked a league-high 68 times and took more quarterback hits than I care to count. And yet, despite a year of punishment behind an offensive line that figures to get overhauled in a major way this offseason, Williams was never on the injury report. That is impressive if you stop and think about it.
Caleb Williams started every game for the Bears in 2024. By doing so, he became the first Chicago starting QB to accomplish that feat since Jay Cutler did it in 2009. Holy smokes! That was a long time ago. I hope Williams has more of those years ahead of him. And if the Bears can keep a clean pocket, I have a feeling he will (1) do it again and (2) put up quality numbers while doing so. But first, the team needs to get a new head coach to lead the way.
