The nightmare that was the 2024 Chicago Bears season is over. Before the transactional period starts and the roster changes begin, we will recap the seasons of most of the 53-man roster. Next up: We’re looking at the 2024 season of offensive lineman Larry Borom.
Larry Borom’s 2024 Snapshot
The 2024 season wasn’t necessarily one to write home about for Larry Borom. In his fourth year with the Bears, Borom started in four (4) and played in eight (8) games โย his fewest in his career to this point. And when he played, he wasn’t really all that effective. He registered a PFF grade of over 60 in just two of his eight games and struggled in both pass blocking and run blocking as well
Larry Borom appeared to struggle most with speed on the edge. His footwork wasn’t fantastic and he often appeared a little late off the ball. He already was never the most fleet of foot offensive lineman, so if he was struggling in those two areas it was always going to be a recipe for disaster.
I was a little bit surprised at how poor Borom played at times this season. He’ll likely never be a full-time starter in the NFL, but in his first three seasons, he didn’t seem to struggle as noticeably as he did this year.
By the Numbers
- Snaps: 329
- Sacks allowed: 7
- Hurries: 13
- Pressures: 22
- Penalties: 3
- Run-Block Grade: 56.2
- Pass-Block Grade: 51.7
Contract Status
Borom’s contract is up and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
One Big Question
Is Larry Borom Part Of The Bears Plans In 2025?
With Borom’s contract up, it feels to me like it would be a long shot for him to be back next season. Obviously, his struggles have been well-documented and the Bears need a massive overhaul along the offensive line. The fact that the offensive line struggled as much as it did last year and Borom was only a reserve for that group, I would think they would be looking for several upgrades.
After being hired, new Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson acknowledged that the offensive line was an area that needed to improve in 2025:
โI think offensive line is certainly an area that we need to get better play from going forward. Something that Ryan and I already talked about. We will develop a plan of attack for how to get that done. But Iโm looking forward to getting an excellent offensive line coach into the building to help develop the young talent we already have on the roster, and we will certainly talk about acquiring talent to bolster that unit as well. I certainly was blessed the last few years with the men that I worked with, and that was something I would love to replicate here as well.โ
Of all people, Johnson knows how important a good offensive line is if you want to have success on that side of the ball. I think they’ll sign multiple free agents and use several draft picks as well to try and turn that group around quickly. With that in mind, I would have to think that the chances of Borom being back are slim.
