Day 29 of the Chicago Bears offseason. I’m glad Beyoncé won Album of the Year. Not only was it a long time coming for an artist who has been snubbed more times than I care to count, but winning the award felt like The Academy rewarding an artist for doing something different — and excelling. Maybe I’m Old Man Simpson yelling at a cloud, but too much music in recent years has been created to sound the same because it makes money and does units. Perhaps this is a first step toward putting artistry back into the art of music.
- Opening with a basketball anecdote is straight-up unheard of at BN Bears, but you can’t blame me — right? One day after the Mavericks’ unfathomable trade of Luka Doncic to the Lakers, the Chicago Bulls made a blockbuster deal of their own by sending Zach LaVine in a complicated three-way deal that reunites him with former teammate DeMar DeRozan in Sacramento. Maybe I should get League Pass to see how this plays out.
- And to think, the Bulls might not be done:
What else does this team have up their sleeve?

- I opened this set of Bullets with a Bulls anecdote because it puts into perspective some things that are happening with the Bears. The Bulls are picking a path, much like the Bears did in 2022. It isn’t going to be pretty. Frankly, it’ll be mostly forgettable. But I hope the juice is worth the squeeze. And it might be if this franchise sticks with a path, makes a plan, and executes. The execution is the hardest part. However, with the way the Bulls have been run over the last decade or so, picking a path and making a plan has been equally difficult. Now that they’ve got that out of the way, Bulls management can move on with the actual heavy lifting.
- My hope for the Bulls is the same as it is with the Bears — to go from rebuilding to opening a championship window. With that being said, Happy Super Bowl Week! We have survived the always-harrowing bye week and made it to The Big Game. Even when Chicago’s football team isn’t playing, there are always fun anecdotes that pop up with media folks gathering at the Super Bowl site. I am trying to keep a flexible schedule so we can cover that stuff as a site.
- Just as I was typing this out, we got this bit of breaking news…

- … I do not know if the Bears can pull it off. And I’m unsure if the team would be willing to do so. After all, there are so many needs to fill on this roster. But if you were going to mortgage some of your future draft capital, doing so for a star pass-rusher who is in his prime and at the peak of his powers is something that could be worth doing,
- We’ve already got a Super Bowl poll out via Twitter.
- Remember when the Bears beat the Chiefs in the preseason? That was fun.
- I do not know what Ben Johnson’s plans for the preseason will be now that he gets to call the shots as a head coach. We probably won’t find out until summertime rolls around. HOWEVER, I truly hope that whatever path he chooses is in stark contrast to what Matt Eberflus did while he was running the show in Chicago. The Bears training camp and preseason plans were questionable and the early season results had us questioning the process. Thankfully, a new sheriff is in town. And with that, perhaps a new way of operating.
- The Pro Bowl Games didn’t generate a ton of buzz on Sunday among my circle of friends. Where did it register with you and your crew?
- Seeing Jaylon Johnson and Devin Hester link up at the Pro Bowl was neat:
