On the surface, it may seem like there isn’t a lot to bet on tonight. The NHL is in its offseason. The NBA is in the middle of Summer League. The NFL and college football are weeks away. And the MLB is in the middle of its All-Star Break.
However, if you’re willing to bet on something that isn’t a typical game, tonight has one of the most fun events of the year: The MLB Home Run Derby. The game’s biggest sluggers are getting together in Seattle to see who can mash the most home runs. What’s more fun than that?

How to bet on the 2023 MLB Home Run Derby
The MLB Home Run Derby is finally here. It’s one of the best sporting events of the summer, and it’s incredibly fun to bet on. If you’ve signed up for DraftKings Sportbook and received your deposit bonus, then it’s time to place a bet. Let’s go over the derby participants and their odds to win on DraftKings Sportsbook.
There are eight players in the MLB Home Run Derby, and remember: It’s a bracket-style tournament.
- No. 1: Luis Robert Jr. (CHW) +550
- No. 8: Adley Rutschman (BAR) +1800
- No. 4: Adolis Garcia (TEX) +700
- No. 5: Randy Arozarena (TB) +1100
- No. 3: Mookie Betts (LAD) +1000
- No. 6: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (TOR) +370
- No. 2: Pete Alonso (NYM) +310
- No. 7: Julio Rodriguez (SEA) +450
Sheesh, I got excited just typing out those names. This derby is going to be immaculate.
When analyzing the Home Run Derby, there are a lot of things to consider. But let’s start with the basics — who has hit the most home runs so far this season? Out of the eight participants, Mookie Betts, Luis Robert Jr. and Pete Alonso are all tied with 26 homers on the season. Next is Adolis Garcia with 23. Randy Arozarena has 16. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Julio Rodriguez each have 13. And Adley Rutschman closes the group with 12.
However, those numbers don’t always tell the whole story. For example, Rodriguez only has 12 home runs so far this season and is the No. 7 seed tonight, but he was the runner-up last season (Juan Soto was the champ). Another example: Pete Alonso is the No. 2 seed, but he’s won this competition twice before, so he knows how it works.
The best way to bet the Home Run Derby is always to go with your gut, pick your favorite guy, and cheer like crazy, but if you’re looking for a nudge in a certain direction, let me make my case for Julio Rodriguez at +450.
Rodriguez and the Mariners got off to a slow start this season, but they’ve started to turn things around and are now looking like they’ll make a run at their second-consecutive playoff berth. T-Mobile Park in Seattle will be absolutely electric when Rodriguez is up to bat, and if anyone loves to put on a good show for the fans, it’s Rodriguez.
He has a chance to avenge his loss last year. And finally, the toughest opponent in the field (Pete Alonso) is his first matchup. If he can take care of Alonso, it might be smooth sailing for Rodriguez.
