All eyes have converged upon Phoenix Raceway where the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series champion will be crowned. Can Penske grab their third straight trophy, or will it be William Byron or Tyler Reddick celebrating their first championship come Sunday evening? As we prepare to have these questions answered, letโs review the Championship Race odds and see who the sportsbooks are favoring in the desert.
Championship Race Sunday at Phoenix Raceway
As is customary for Championship weekend, drivers hit the 1-mile flat track for an extended 50-minute full field practice. This yearโs being that much more important, with us running a tire combo that was not used during our first visit here, or ever at Phoenix Raceway. It was apparent from the beginning though, that the pre-qualifying Championship Race Odds favorite, and hottest driver in the sport Ryan Blaney, would once again be a force to be reckoned with.
During the session, he posted the fastest single lap and topped the charts in 5, 10, and 15-lap averages. He was clearly the best Championship 4 driver as the rest of his competitors either made multiple adjustments or simply didnโt have the same speed as was the case with Tyler Reddick. However, with this being the Championship Race, drivers had an entire day to go over data and make any necessary changes to their race trim as they prepared for qualifying the following day.

Saturdayโs qualifying session began with some significant news. Joey Loganoโs Pennzoil No.22 car failed tech inspection twice, resulting in him losing his car chief and NASCAR selecting his pit stall regardless of qualifying effort. This wound up being a massive penalty for Logano, who put down the second-fastest lap in the final round and is starting 3 rows ahead of the next Championship 4 driver (William Byron).
That wasnโt the only big news to come out of Saturdayโs on-track Cup action. Blaney, who felt like their car was fairly well balanced on Friday, mirrored last seasonโs 15th-place Championship Race qualifying with a 17th-place effort this year. Lastly, and quite possibly the beginning to a real storybook ending, was Martin Truex Jr. grabbing the Pole by just one hundredth over the aforementioned Joey Logano. This came after a fun and jovial press conference ahead of qualifying in which I asked if there was a specific goal in mind for his final race; his answer: โI want to win.โ
NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Odds
In years past, the post-qualifying Championship Race odds havenโt seen much significant movement, and the Champ 4 drivers usually eat most of the hold. After Ross Chastainโs victory last year though, sportsbooks have wisened up, and taken notice to the strongest non-playoff driver ahead of Sundayโs race. This is none other than the soon-to-be retiree Truex Jr. who has shortened from 20-1 or longer, all the way inside double digits in some places. Moving in the opposite direction was Tyler Reddick. Who despite qualifying 10th, looks a tad off from the rest of the Championship 4, and has reopened around 12-1 to win the Championship race. You can see the updated race odds below.

NASCAR Cup Series Championship Odds
Now, to win the NASCAR Championship, the four competitors do not, and Iโll repeat, DO NOT have to win this race. All these drivers have to do is be the top-finishing Championship 4 car and the trophy is all theirs. This is extremely important to consider when shopping numbers and what market to enter. With that, here are the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Odds.
Driver | Odds to Win Championship |
---|---|
Ryan Blaney | +165 |
Joey Logano | +165 |
William Byron | +300 |
Tyler Reddick | +700 |
NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Bets
Weโve made it to the final race of the 2024 NASCAR season, and hopefully, youโre holding big futures on a couple of these Championship 4 drivers. If not, getting exposure to this race, and the champion will require some conviction, considering how short some of these numbers are. So, letโs try to find some value, if that even exists anymore.
Martin Truex Jr. Top Toyota +240 (Caesars)
Anyone who has read previous articles, or perhaps caught the podcast Iโm on, knows Iโm selfishly hoping that Tyler Reddick wins the Championship. On a normal race weekend, thatโd probably mean him finishing as the Top Toyota, but that isnโt the case this weekend in Phoenix. This Championship Race format allows for Tyler to win the trophy and still finish behind a fellow Toyota so thatโs where Iโm headed.
Marty, as I mentioned earlier, bested all four Championship 4 drivers during qualifying, something that has never happened here at Phoenix, and that was after posting incredibly fast practice times on Friday. It’s also interesting to note that Truex put his car on the front row last year, and in coming home 6th that day, finished as the top Toyota as well. He’s closing out one of the most improbable careers in NASCAR history and has the looks and apparent goal of doing it in style. Lastaly, it’s our last shot to bet on the 19-car with MTJ behind the wheel, so why the hell not?!
