This news had been rumored for a few a while now, and we talked about it earlier this week, but it is now official that Stan Bowman will be the General Manager for the 2022 Team USA Men’s Olympic Hockey team.

Bowman, along with Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin, will head-up the front office for the 2022 Men’s hockey team at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
The 2022 Winter Olympics is supposed to mark the return of NHL players back to the Men’s hockey tournament after missing out of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. But without an agreement officially in place, there could be a “Plan B” for Team USA that doesn’t involve Bowman and Guerin, but the sense around the international hockey world is that an agreement will get done.

As General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks since July of 2009, Bowman has overseen the organization during their three modern-day Stanley Cup runs in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He has never been part of the US Olympic team’s management group, but was an assistant General Manager for Team North America in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
“We’re incredibly proud to have a member of the Blackhawks family play an integral role with USA Hockey as they represent our country on this global stage."

The USA has never won an Olympic Gold Medal in Men’s Hockey when NHL players were allowed to play in the tournament. Team USA took home Silver Medals in 2002 and 2010, losing to Canada both times, and lost to Finland in the 2014 Bronze Medal game.
