A key piece to the Chicago Blackhawks’ trade deadline moves was the acquisition of Henrik Borgström from the Florida Panthers in the five-player deal that saw Lucas Carlsson and Lucas Wallmark head to Florida with Borgström, Brett Connolly, and Riley Stillman heading to Chicago. According to The Athletic’s Scott Powers, the Blackhawks have agreed to a new deal with Borgström. Per the report, it’s a two-year deal through the 2022-23 season.
UPDATE: According to PuckPedia, the two-year deal is worth $1M AAV ($900,000 in 2021-22, $1.1M in 2022-23).
Borgström couldn’t get a new deal done with the Panthers last offseason and opted to play his 2020-21 season in the Finnish Liiga with HIFK. In 30 games in Finland this season, Borgström tallied 11 goals and 21 points. He also skated in eight postseason games with HIFK and notched five points on his way to a bronze medal with the club.
