If you don’t love playoff hockey, this is not the Stanley Cup Playoffs for you. Also, I question why you are even here…who doesn’t like playoff hockey? Weirdos, that’s who. These Stanley Cup Playoffs have been electric through three days and it doesn’t look like that will be changing anytime soon as the Canadian teams haven’t even started their series yet! Even the games not going to overtime have been exciting and must-see television. This is truly the time of year where new hockey fans are created. I love it.
• We had more overtime action in the Capitals and Bruins series. Game Two went the way of the Bruins this time, tying up the series 1-1 thanks to Brad Marchand’s quick overtime-winner.

• Marchand was just quick enough in the extra frame to make Bruins history in the process, scoring 39 seconds into overtime to set the record for fastest overtime winner in Bruins playoff history.
Brad Marchand scored the fastest goal to start a #StanleyCup Playoffs overtime in @NHLBruins history and tied the First Round series at 1-1 in the process.

• Quite the record to break.
• While the Bruins and Capitals needed another overtime, the Hurricanes and Predators opened their series with less of a nail-biter as the Hurricanes took Game One 5-2 at a raucous PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

• 12,000 fans never looked so much like a sellout in my life. Holy smokes.
• Carolina took care of business in Game One, and the first goal of the Hurricanes’ postseason run was scored by former Chicago Blackhawk Teuvo Teravainen. Because, of course it was.
"That had eyes!" Pesce from the point, Teravainen seals the deal. #ItsOn pic.twitter.com/wuJkQDIXwi

• I’m just happy that he’s happy.
• With the 5-2 win, the Hurricanes were able to treat the fans in attendance to their very first Storm Surge™ of the postseason.
Bunch of @Canes having fun.

• The Bunch of Jerks are back. Seriously, the Hurricanes have become one of the model organization’s in the NHL. Chicago needs to take many notes on how they operate on and off the ice.
• Finally in the late game last night, the Colorado Avalanche topped the St. Louis Blues 4-1, but it could have been a much different game without the efforts of Colorado defenseman Ryan Graves on this play…

• The Avalanche were paced by a Captain Gabriel Landeskog, who tallied a goal, two assists, and a fight, also known as the Gordie Howe Hat-Trick. Quite the way to begin the postseason for the President’s Trophy-winning Avalanche.

• It’s been incredibly entertaining hockey through the first games of the postseason. The speed and skill have been on full display and the physicality has been turned up to eleven! It makes you realize, unfortunately, how far away the Blackhawks are from being a contender in the NHL. They are not built for this style of hockey.
• Elsewhere in hockey and speaking of the Canadian teams getting ready to begin the postseason, the Montreal Canadiens sent down Brendan Gallagher and Carey Price to the AHL Laval Rocket for a one-game tune-up against the Toronto Marlies as they prepare for their upcoming series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

• Yes, that’s Carey Price in the AHL. Didn’t have that on my bingo card this season.
• Unfortunately, Laval gave Price no help as they lost 2-0. Montreal and Toronto begin their first-round series on Thursday.
Even the Toronto Marlies are dunking on Carey Price. They're up 2-0 now. A good sign for the Maple Leafs when they see him in net for the Habs later this week. pic.twitter.com/tBAyo5Nqu2

• We’ll transition back to the Blackhawks organization with a highlight reel goal from Blackhawks development coach and PWHPA Star Kendall Coyne-Schofield from yesterday’s Dream Gap Tour game in St. Louis.

• When she’s not scoring game-winners, Coyne-Schofield has been working with the Rockford IceHogs as a development coach this season. In yesterday’s end-of-year media call, Blackhawks VP of Hockey Operations Mark Bernard gave heavy praise to the work she and the other development coaches have done this year with the young AHL squad.
#Blackhawks VP Hockey Ops Bernard on development coaches Brian Campbell, Erik Condra, & Kendall Coyne-Schofield: "It's great to have them here & on the bench to take the time to see the game at that level & talk with players in those moments."
Says they will stay in current roles— Mario Tirabassi (@Mario_Tirabassi) May 17, 2021
• In fact, the Blackhawks have been happy enough with the work of IceHogs head coach Derek King and his staff that they are bringing everyone back on three-year contract extensions, according to King himself.
• It’s not a bad move for the continuity of development for the IceHogs and Blackhawks, giving King and his staff a full-year of an offseason and regular season to work with the up and coming players in the Blackhawks system. Like Chicago head coach Jeremy Colliton, King has yet to have a full, normal season as head coach in Rockford.
• That will do it for today. Enjoy your Tuesdays and enjoy the hockey!
