On February 2, the Chicago Blackhawks will be hosting a “town hall” event to provide details on the direction of the organization and the ongoing search for a new General Manager.
As laid out by Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz earlier this week, the club is getting into the interview process to find their new permanent GM, a role that will oversee all of the Hockey Operations department and will answer only to Wirtz.

On February 2, Chicago will host their event for fans, media, and staff prior to their game that night against the Minnesota Wild. The event will also be streamed on the Blackhawks’ YouTube and Twitter channels at 6:00 p.m. CT that night. Rocky Wirtz, Danny Wirtz, and Jaime Faulkner will be hosting the event, with Danny Wirtz and Faulkner being the two in charge of interviewing the potential GM candidates.
In the release from Danny Wirtz earlier this week, he said that the “town hall” event would be the “further explain the greater vision” of the organization moving forward. Forward beyond the “One Goal” era, the Stan Bowman era, and to move forward from the Kyle Beach sexual assault investigation and lawsuits. The hope is that the club will stick to their words of changing the culture in then organization and doing what is necessary to make the Blackhawks a top organization in the NHL on and off the ice.
Chicago will be transparent in the process, but don’t expect a Bears-style of GM search, where every candidate was known to the general public and/or announced by the team that they would be interviewing. For as much change is necessary for the club, these are still the Rocky Wirtz-owned Blackhawks and they will play things close to the vest. Hopefully this “town hall” event isn’t a waste of our time with hollow words, and we can see some tangible steps the organization is taking to do better than the previous front office did.
