Ryan Carpenter is not heading to the Nashville Predators, as we thought there for a second, but he is being traded. Frank Seravalli is reporting this afternoon that Carpenter is being traded to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick.

Ryan Carpenter will provide the Flames with a solid fourth-line centerman or a depth forward. Carpenter has 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 59 games for the Blackhawks this season. Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks will add a fifth-rounder in 2024 to rebuild their war chest.
The Ryan Carpenter trade becomes the third (and likely final) trade for the Blackhawks in the days leading up to the deadline. The Blackhawks traded Brandon Hagel to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, acquiring Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk, and a pair of first-rounders in 2023 and 2024. Davidson also landed a conditional 2022 second-rounder earlier today when he traded Marc-André Fleury to the Minnesota Wild. We’ll have more comprehensive thoughts on the Blackhawks approach in the hours/days to come.
