There was a lot of playoff hockey on the ol’ television — and streaming — last night. There were four potential elimination games in the NHL and the Rockford IceHogs began their Calder Cup Playoff series against the Chicago Wolves in Rosemont. Only one team was sent home for the summer; Minnesota’s loss has direct implications on the Blackhawks’ 2022 NHL Draft picks as well.
• Rockford skated into the Allstate Arena last night to battle the Wolves and… it did not go well. However, Lukas Reichel made a nice play to take the puck away and score the game’s first goal to give the IceHogs an early lead.

• From there it was ALL Wolves. The next six (6!) goals were from Chicago. Arvid Söderblom got shelled, allowing five goals against 27 shots and got the hook after two periods. Cale Morris came in and faced ten shots in the third period allowing one score. Reichel and Evan Barratt scored the two goals for the Hogs. On to the next game, which is back in Rosemont. Puck drops at 7 pm.
• Minnesota got run out of the barn by the Blues last night, ending their postseason much earlier than they had hoped. St. Louis now gets the short trip to Denver to face the top-seed Avalanche, who have been sitting around watching like us for the past four days by virtue of sweeping the Preds. Based on their social, Colorado is ready.
• In our savage social game moment from last night, the Stanley Cup was in Tennessee. Sounds awkward, right? Well, Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan somehow got a day with the Cup — something no Predators player has ever had.

• The best game last night was Tampa and Toronto. The Lightning’s dream of a third straight Stanley Cup will wait until the weekend to continue. They’ll be one of three Game 7s on Saturday, which is absolute magic for hockey fans.
• The best player last night was Connor McDavid, who was an absolute beast. The Oilers were able to escape LA with a big-time win. Evander Kane wrapped the scoring into an empty net, his second of the night and seventh of the series.
