On Thursday, Hockey Canada announced the 88 (yes, eighty-eight) players invited to the training camp for a chance to play in the 2022 World Junior Championship tournament. The tournament, originally scheduled for December, was moved to August because of COVID concerns.
Three Blackhawks prospects — defensemen Nolan Allan and Ethan Del Mastro and forward Colton Dach — were on the long list of invited players.
Allan was the Blackhawks’ first-round pick (No. 32 overall) in last summer’s draft. He has already signed his entry-level contract with Chicago. Del Mastro was a fourth-round pick (No. 105 overall) by the Hawks in 2021 and has also signed his entry-level deal.
Colton Dach, last year’s second-round pick (No. 62 overall) and the younger brother of Kirby, has also signed with the Blackhawks. Allan and Dach were invited to skate with the IceHogs during their playoff run this spring but didn’t see game action in the postseason.
