As we creep closer to the start of the 2022 NHL Draft, trades are starting to take place.
In Chicago, we’re all “patiently” waiting to see what the future holds for star forward Alex DeBrincat. And all indications are that he’ll be wearing a new sweater before reporting to training camp.
Earlier this morning, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan tweeted that there was an increasing expectation that DeBrincat would be gone today. “Retired” insider Bob McKenzie echoed her sentiments later this morning.
And now Mark Lazerus of The Athletic has jumped in stating the obvious: it’s more than likely happening.
So the entire hockey world is now expecting a trade. As we wrote this morning, it’s time for new general manager Kyle Davidson to put up or shut up — it’s go time.
If/When he trades DeBrincat, the social media judges will immediately decide if he’s ready for the job. But one of the reasons we’ve been sharing our Trade Tree Friday pieces for the past couple of months is as a reminder that trades take time to come to fruition, so don’t be too quick to make a final determination if you like or hate the deal.
