The Blackhawks’ last two top draft picks were in action for Team Canada in a scrimmage at their WJC camp on Monday, but it was a Blackhawks fourth-rounder that stole the show.
- Some Blackhawks prospects were in action on Monday in Team Canada’s World Juniors Championship camp in a Red-White scrimmage game. Fellow Blackhawks blue line prospects and first-rounders of the past two seasons, Kevin Korchinski and Nolan Allan, made up the left side of the top two pairings for the White team.
- Colton Dach and Ryan Greene played together on the Red team’s second line, and Paul Ludwinski centered the fourth line for the Red team, while Ethan Del Mastro was on the top blue line pairing for the Red team.
- Del Mastro had a great game and was one of four players with multiple points in the contest. Here’s a couple of clips, one of a big hit at the blue line and then one of a secondary assist for Del Mastro that helped Red go up 2-0.
- In addition to getting involved in the scoring, the 2021 fourth-rounder played some excellent defense. Here are some clips, courtesy of Chicago Prospects on Twitter (a good follow for everyone with the prospect-watching phase of the rebuild taking center stage for the foreseeable future).
- Del Mastro and Team White won the scrimmage 5-3 on Monday.
- Sticking with the kids here for a moment, Tab broke down the impact that the 2020 draft class will need to have on the rebuild and ran down where everyone from the class stands as we prepare for the start of the 2022-23 season.
- Lukas Reichel and Isaak Phillips have a shot to be NHL regulars this season. Landon Slaggert, Drew Commesso, Wyatt Kaiser, and Louis Crevier have a shot at joining them in the coming years with their arrows pointing up.
- Hockey Canada released a new ‘Action Plan’ to address the continuing emergence of sexual assault allegations on Monday:
- Matthew Tkachuk tells us how his trade went down:
- Dom Luszczyszyn put together a list of the ’10 Worst Contracts in Hockey’ over at The Athletic today, and you bet the Blackhawks made the list!
- Luszczyszyn has Seth Jones as the second-worst contract in the NHL, and while Jones is a 50-point scorer who eats minutes, his $9.5 cap hit is an albatross and one of the reasons that he’ll never be able to live up to his acquisition in the eyes of fans and pundits. It’s not that Jones isn’t a solid player; it’s just that there’s no way a defenseman can perform to the expectation of those dollars.
- Luszczszyn also put together the best contracts in hockey list, and no, the Blackhawks do not make an appearance there.
- Drew Commesso was named the eighth-best goaltending prospect by The Athletic‘s Scott Wheeler:
- The Bulls preseason schedule dropped this morning:
- If the ankle is right, this is a HUGE signing for the Bears!
- That’s it for today!
