On Monday morning, the Blackhawks announced another addition to new head coach Luke Richardson’s coaching staff. Derek Plante is returning to the organization as an assistant coach.
Plante, 51, will join Kevin Dean and Derek King on Richardson’s coaching staff.
As we noted this weekend when this rumor surfaced, Plante spent five years (2015-20) in the Blackhawks organization as a player development coach. Most recently, Plante was the associate head coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
At UMD, Plante coached Blackhawks prospects forward Dominic James and defensemen Wyatt Kaiser and Connor Kelley last season. Plante also coached at UMD, his alma mater, from 2010-15 before joining the Blackhawks.
