When Eddie Olczyk left the Chicago Blackhawks broadcast booth, there were reports that he would eventually land on his feet in Seattle. That rumor has become a reality.
On Thursday, the Kraken announced Edzo will join John Forslund and JT Brown calling Kraken games.
Edzo will also remain on national broadcasts with Turner.
Here’s what Edzo had to say about the new gig — and his old one — in the Kraken’s release:
“The Kraken have made an immediate impact since entering the league and I’m very excited to be joining the organization and getting to know their amazing fans,” said Olczyk, a long-time analyst on Chicago Blackhawks telecasts now choosing Seattle as his NHL home team. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, passion and love for the game of hockey to Seattle and to the ROOT SPORTS broadcasts.
“I’d like to thank Rocky and Danny Wirtz and the Blackhawks organization, as well as the fans, for all their incredible support over the years and for some unforgettable memories. I’ve known and worked with John for years and have known JT since he was starting his hockey career and could not be more excited to be working alongside the two of them.”
Brown played with Eddie’s son, Eddie, during the 2008-09 season with the Waterloo Black Hawks. And he’s done plenty of national games with Forslund.
This group might be one of the strongest local broadcast teams in the NHL now, which we can appreciate as Blackhawks fans who were treated to Edzo and Pat Foley working together over the past years.
Kraken fans are going to have a great broadcast to enjoy, no matter the outcome.
