As the Colorado Avalanche celebrated their championship on Wednesday night with the customary video montage and final parading of the Cup around the ice, Blackhawks defenseman Jack Johnson was on the Chicago bench watching.
Johnson, of course, was a member of the Avalanche team that won the Stanley Cup earlier this year.
Something I can’t remember seeing before happened next. As the Avalanche stood and watched the banner take its place in the rafters, Johnson — in his Blackhawks uniform — joined his former teammates on the ice.
A terrific moment for a guy who’s played for a long time.
He then got a nice standing ovation and a video thank you from the Avs during the first television timeout. All class from Colorado.
