If you’ve followed me on Twitter over the past few years, you’ll note that I’m a fan and a card collector. So when a card of a player I like goes on the market, I tend to pay attention. A Patrick Kane card caught my eye this weekend, and then blew me away when it sold.
Goldin Auctions had an insane card on the block last week. It features a patch of game-used jerseys and the autograph of both Kane and Alex Ovechkin and is a 1 of 1. It’s from the 2007-08 Upper Deck set, so before either of these players had a Stanley Cup championship on their resume. And PSA graded it a 9, meaning it’s in great shape in addition to being incredibly rare.
The card sold just after midnight on Sunday morning with 50 total bids. The final price: $104,700 (including a buyer’s premium;, the final bid was $87,250).
I’m not sure if a Kane card has ever sold for more than $100,000 but coupling the greatest American born player of all-time with a guy who’s going to pass Gordie Howe for second place all-time in goal scoring this season makes this a holy grail card.
Shoutout to whomever bought it because this is a gorgeous piece.
