The Blackhawks purge of Stan Bowman draft picks continues.
After trading defenseman Nicolas Beaudin to Montreal on Wednesday morning, the Blackhawks announced they traded forward Evan Barratt to the Flyers for defenseman Cooper Zech.
Zech, 23, was an undrafted college free agent who signed with the Providence Bruins after one year at Ferris State. He’s a 5-9, 161 pound left-handed defenseman who has not appeared in a game this year and does not have an NHL game on his resume. He had 11 points in 53 games for Lehigh Valley in the AHL last season. He is in the final year of his entry-level contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer.
Barratt, 23, was a third-round pick (No. 90 overall) by the Blackhawks in 2017. He played at Penn State for three years before signing with the Blackhawks. He posted 14 goals and 14 assists in 63 games in Rockford last season and is in the final year of his entry-level contract.
In a non-Blackhawks transaction that impact the IceHogs, Rockford traded Riley McKay to Laval for future considerations.
