Some good news on Friday! The Blackhawks have activated defenseman Ian Mitchell off IR and assigned him to the Rockford IceHogs.
Mitchell, 23, has been sidelined by a wrist injury he suffered before training camp. He rejoined the NHL roster for practices without the non-contact jersey this week. When I spoke with him after practice on Tuesday he said he is looking forward to getting back into game action and working his way back to an NHL spot.
The IceHogs travel to face the Texas Stars on Saturday and Sunday nights this weekend, so Mitchell could get a jump on working his way back quickly.
The Blackhawks could use another defenseman who can provide some offense and play defensively. Caleb Jones’ play recently has left a lot to be desired and Mitchell could be a player head coach Luke Richardson could use to provide some ice-time driven motivation to veterans.
